Participation is open to registered graduate and undergraduate industrial, interactive and gaming design students from every country.
Registration is free and applicants must accept underlying conditions
By registering you accept the conditions below. Please observe, in particular, the conditions applicable to the intellectual property rights to the submitted competition entry (the "work").

Organisation
This design competition is organised by DECT Forum. The project management and all operational activities are arranged by Jakajima.

Briefing
As mentioned in about CAT-iq the following seven issues are noteworthy for this new technology;
- Complete coverage in the home and in the garden (also familiar to DECT)
- An open standard
- CD quality audio
- The system is always on (also familiar to DECT)
- Not just telephony, but also IP connectivity
- Real plug & play (also familiar to DECT)
- Energy saving
The briefing for this competition is simple and straightforward.
Create, based upon a combination of these seven issues new product and/or service concepts for the home environment and for the consumer.
Realise that you can go far beyond the traditional telephony solutions.

Awards and prizes
For the winners of the competition the following prizes are offered:
- First prize: €10,000
- Second prize: €5,000
- Runner up prize: €1,000
Winners will be announced on November 14, 2008.

The jury and the design criteria
The jury is composed of experts and industry leaders. The jury will award designs and concepts which best meet the judging criteria mentioned in the brief. Submissions should be the applicant’s own creation, shall not currently be in production and shall not previously have been published or exhibited.

- Functionality and Usefulness
- Aesthetic quality
- Ergonomics
- Marketability
- Feasibility and cost of manufacture
- Quality and clarity of presentation materials
The jury’s decision will be final.

The registration and submission deadline
Competition Timeline
Entry for registration opens Thursday 8th May 2008
Registration closes Friday 19th September 2008, 18:00 local time (The Netherlands, Europe)
After you have registered via the registration form, you will receive a confirmation of your registration and a unique registration number.
Submission closes Friday 10th October 2008, 18:00 local time (The Netherlands, Europe)
You should use the registration number on the envelope of your entry as well on your pictures, paper, CD-ROM/DVD and supporting materials.
Winners will be announced Friday 14th November 2008

Registration
Registration is open now, please fill in the form.
The competition is an individual competition, meaning that group entries will not be accepted.
Applicants are asked to submit only one solution per category. .

Submit your entry / entries
Entry to this competition is reserved for;
- individuals
- registered undergraduates and/or graduates industrial, interaction or gaming design are allowed to participate
- applicants from every country in the world
The following persons are not allowed to enter:
- members of staff of the DECT Forum, DECT Forum members and DECT Forum associated members,
- members of staff of Jakajima and other suppliers to DECT Forum,
- spouses and family members of staff of the aforementioned companies and groups,
- and, in general, any persons involved in the planning and organisation of the competition, whether directly or indirectly.
The contents of the submission;
- All communication in English
- Make clear which category you have selected on each component.
- Physical form, drawings, pictures, hard copies (max 3 x A3)
- Description of your project/concept including the selected type of device(s) and subcategories; pdf format only, max 2MB.
- Description of which consumer needs are being solved with your concept; pdf format only, max 500 words
- CD-Rom/DVD with electronic version and pictures
- All components should bear registration number and the selected category only.
- When submitting your concept/idea you will verify that you have accepted the rules mentioned.

Intellectual Property Rights
Save as set out in these rules, DECT Forum has no claims to your work or to the intellectual property relating to it.
8.1 Ownership of Intellectual Property
By entering this competition, you:
(a) Warrant that:
- The work is your original work,
- To the best of your knowledge, it is not, and has not been in production or otherwise previously published or exhibited,
- Neither the work nor its use infringes the intellectual property rights (whether a patent, utility model, functional design right, aesthetic design right, trade mark, copyright or any other intellectual property right) of any other person,
(b) Indemnify DECT Forum, the event organizers and their officers and agents against any claim for damages or an injunction, an interdict or a restraining order and against any loss or damages if your work is claimed to infringe any intellectual property rights of any other person;
(c) Acknowledge that DECT Forum, its officers and agents may, for the purpose of this competition and for the other purposes allowed by these rules, exhibit and also to assess, test and otherwise analyse the work together with any materials associated with it and their contents, and you give DECT Forum, its officers and agents the permission to do so;
(d) Acknowledge that you are solely responsible for the protection of any intellectual property rights you may have in the work.
8.2 Licence to DECT Forum
By entering this competition, you license DECT Forum to make reproductions of the work in addition to any associated materials and their contents, on whatever medium and in whatever form (including by way of prototypes, models, printed materials, paper, film, television transmission, dissemination on the internet and electronically), for the purpose of promoting the CAT-iq technology and products containing the CAT-iq technology.
The following terms and conditions apply to this licence:
(a) Included in your licence is the right that DECT Forum may sub-license the rights you have licensed to it for the same purpose
(b) Your licence is irrevocable and royalty free, and applies worldwide.
(c) Your licence is non-exclusive, which means that you may sell or license your work and its associated materials to any other person, subject always to this licence.

No reimbursement or employment
Applicants are not entitled to any compensation or reimbursement for any costs. The applicant’s participation shall not constitute employment, assignment or offer of employment or assignment.

Use of the applicant’s personal data
DECT Forum will use the personal data you submit in connection with the competition for the purpose of administering the competition and evaluating the work. Should you have any questions with regard to the use of your personal data or would like us to correct your personal data, please contact design@jakajima.eu.

Authorization and Limitation of Liability by Entry
By entering this competition:
(a) you authorize DECT Forum to use your name and the name of the institution where you are studying, and to exhibit the work publicly, all for the purpose of this competition, and
(b) you accept that DECT Forum and the competition organizers are not responsible for any damages which you may suffer or claim to suffer by or as a result of taking part in this competition, the authorized use of your entry and/or any decision by the jury.
